About This Program
The Area III Inside Electrical JATC sponsors a registered electrician apprenticeship program based in Springfield, OR. This is a union program affiliated with the IBEW, offering apprentices the structure, wages, and benefits that come with joint apprenticeship training. Apprentices are paid from day one while they develop the skills needed to work safely and effectively in the electrical trade.
The program runs for five years and combines 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with 576 hours of related technical instruction. On the job, apprentices work alongside journeymen electricians on commercial and industrial electrical installations, learning to read blueprints, install wiring systems, run conduit, and troubleshoot electrical problems. Classroom instruction covers electrical theory, the National Electrical Code, safety practices, and blueprint reading.
Upon completing the program, graduates earn journeyman electrician status — a recognized credential that opens doors to stable, well-paying careers in the electrical industry across Oregon and beyond. Electricians are consistently in demand, and journeyman status allows workers to take on more complex projects and pursue leadership roles in the trade.
