About This Program

The Boilermakers S A J A C sponsors this registered boilermaker apprenticeship program based in Ruskin, AL. This is an employer-sponsored, non-union program that prepares apprentices for skilled work in one of the construction and manufacturing trades' most physically demanding and technically complex occupations. Apprentices are paid throughout the entire training period.

The program follows a time-based structure spanning 4 years and combines 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with 576 hours of related technical instruction. On the job, apprentices learn to fabricate, assemble, install, and repair boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats used in power generation, chemical plants, and industrial facilities. Classroom instruction covers blueprint reading, welding techniques, rigging, safety standards, and the properties of metals and other materials.

Upon completing the program, graduates earn journeyman boilermaker status — a credential recognized across heavy industrial sectors. Journeyman boilermakers work in power plants, refineries, shipyards, and manufacturing facilities, where demand for skilled tradespeople remains steady and wages reflect the technical expertise required.
