About This Program

The City of Blaine Lineman Apprenticeship in Blaine, WA is an employer-sponsored, non-union program offered by the city's public utility department, providing a direct pathway into municipal electrical line work. Apprentices are paid throughout the program and gain hands-on experience serving the local community's electric distribution infrastructure.

This four-year, time-based apprenticeship includes 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn to install, operate, and maintain overhead and underground electric distribution systems, operate line vehicles and aerial bucket trucks, work safely around energized conductors, and meet all applicable OSHA and utility safety standards. Technical instruction covers electrical fundamentals, distribution system components, line construction practices, and regulatory requirements.

Graduates complete the program as journey-level linemen equipped to work within Blaine's municipal utility or pursue positions with other public power departments and electrical contractors in Washington State.
