The City of Sumas Lineman Apprenticeship Committee in Sumas, WA sponsors this employer-based, non-union Lineman Apprenticeship through the city's municipal utility. The apprenticeship spans four years and is built on 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices develop practical skills in installing and maintaining overhead and underground electric distribution lines, operating line vehicles and aerial platforms, safely handling energized conductors, and complying with OSHA and utility safety regulations. Classroom instruction covers electrical theory, distribution system operations, hardware and materials, and applicable safety codes.
