About This Program
The City of Tallahassee sponsors a registered lineworker apprenticeship in Tallahassee, FL. Operated by the city's municipal electric utility, this non-union, public sector program offers a stable, paid pathway into the electrical utility trade for qualified applicants in the Tallahassee area. Apprentices receive wages throughout the entire four-year program.
The apprenticeship includes 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices work within the city's electric utility operations, developing skills in distribution line construction and maintenance, transformer installation, underground and overhead line work, emergency response to outages, and compliance with utility safety standards. Classroom instruction supports field training with content covering electrical theory and utility systems.
