About This Program
Coastal Operating Engineers sponsors this employer-based Operating Engineer apprenticeship program in Mobile, AL. This non-union program is designed to prepare apprentices for skilled heavy equipment operation across construction, port, and infrastructure projects common along Alabama's Gulf Coast. All apprentices are paid during their on-the-job training.
The four-year program requires 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices gain experience operating heavy machinery including excavators, cranes, bulldozers, and compactors in real construction environments. Classroom and technical instruction covers equipment operation theory, daily safety inspections, preventive maintenance procedures, grade reading, and compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
Graduates earn journey-level operating engineer credentials and are prepared to work for contractors across the Mobile area's growing construction and maritime infrastructure sectors. The Gulf Coast region's ongoing investment in port development, roadways, and industrial construction creates strong long-term demand for qualified heavy equipment operators.
