About This Program

The Detroit Millwrights Training Center Warren sponsors this non-union Millwright Apprenticeship program in Detroit, Michigan. This paid apprenticeship is designed to train skilled millwrights for the region's demanding industrial job market, providing hands-on experience in machinery installation and maintenance under the guidance of experienced tradespeople.

The four-year program includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices work on installing, aligning, and maintaining a broad range of industrial machinery, including conveyors, turbines, pumps, and mechanical drive systems. They also receive training in rigging, welding, and hydraulic and pneumatic system maintenance. Classroom coursework addresses industrial safety, mechanical theory, precision measurement, and blueprint reading.

Graduates earn journeyman millwright credentials and are equipped to pursue careers throughout Detroit's industrial and automotive manufacturing sectors. Because apprentices are paid from day one, this is a financially practical route into a skilled trade that offers strong long-term career prospects across the region and the broader Midwest industrial economy.
