About This Program
The Flint Electrical JATC sponsors this union electrician apprenticeship program in Flint, Michigan. Jointly administered by labor and employer partners, this JATC program provides residents of the Flint area with a structured, paid entry point into the electrical trade, combining hands-on field training with formal technical education under the union apprenticeship model.
The five-year program includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices work on commercial, industrial, and residential projects alongside journeyman electricians, building practical skills in electrical wiring, conduit installation, panel assembly, motor controls, circuit troubleshooting, and National Electrical Code compliance. Classroom coursework covers electrical theory, blueprint reading, load calculations, and workplace safety. Wages are paid throughout the apprenticeship and increase with each year of progression.
Graduates complete the program as journeyman electricians with union membership, gaining access to collectively bargained wages, healthcare, retirement benefits, and continued training opportunities.
