The Florida West Coast Operating Engineers JAC sponsors this union Operating Engineer apprenticeship program based in Plant City, FL. Jointly managed by labor and management, this JATC-affiliated program trains apprentices in heavy equipment operation for use across the construction and infrastructure sectors on Florida's Gulf Coast. Apprentices earn wages throughout the duration of the program.

This four-year apprenticeship includes 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices gain field experience operating excavators, cranes, bulldozers, scrapers, and paving equipment on active construction sites under the mentorship of journey-level operators.
