Insulators JATC Kent Local 84 offers a union Insulator apprenticeship program in Kent, OH. As a JATC program, training standards are jointly developed by union and contractor representatives to prepare apprentices for skilled work in Northeast Ohio's industrial and commercial construction sectors. Apprentices earn wages from day one and receive incremental increases as they progress through the program.
This four-year, time-based apprenticeship requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. On the job, apprentices learn to install, repair, and finish insulation on pipes, boilers, vessels, and mechanical systems in industrial and commercial environments. Classroom instruction covers insulation types and properties, energy efficiency, thermal and moisture control, safety regulations, and trade math.
Graduates achieve journey-level insulator status and union membership through Local 84. This credential is recognized by union contractors throughout Ohio and provides access to steady employment, collectively bargained wages, and comprehensive benefits in a trade with consistent regional demand.
