About This Program

The International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 19, in partnership with the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP), offers a union Elevator Constructor apprenticeship in Seattle, WA. NEIEP provides the curriculum backbone for this JATC-affiliated program, combining nationally standardized instruction with the local expertise of IUEC Local 19 journeymen. Apprentices are paid throughout the program.

This time-based apprenticeship runs four years and includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training alongside 576 hours of related technical instruction. The NEIEP curriculum covers traction and hydraulic elevator installation, escalator systems, electrical troubleshooting, mechanical systems, safety codes, and modernization techniques. Field training takes place on active job sites in and around the Seattle area under experienced union supervision.
