The International Association of Heat & Frost Insulators/Allied Workers sponsors this Insulator apprenticeship program based in Albany, NY. This employer-sponsored, non-union program provides a structured, four-year pathway into the insulation trades for individuals in the Capital Region of New York. Apprentices are paid throughout the program, earning an income while developing hands-on trade skills.
The apprenticeship spans four years and includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training alongside 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices work on commercial and industrial job sites, learning to install and maintain insulation systems on pipes, boilers, mechanical equipment, and building envelopes. Classroom instruction covers insulation materials, energy and thermal management, safety regulations, and trade-specific calculations.
Upon successful completion, apprentices earn journey-level status as insulators, qualifying them to work independently across a broad range of insulation applications. This trade offers consistent demand in New York's commercial construction and industrial maintenance sectors.
