About This Program

IPSA/Lineman Technology in Logan, UT sponsors this employer-based, non-union Lineman Apprenticeship, providing a paid training pathway for individuals in northern Utah who want to build a career in the electrical power line trade. Apprentices earn wages throughout the program while gaining the technical skills and field experience required for journey-level work.

This four-year, time-based program is structured around 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn to construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electric distribution systems, operate bucket trucks and other line equipment, work safely around high-voltage conductors, and comply with OSHA and utility safety requirements. Technical instruction covers electrical theory, line construction principles, hardware components, and applicable regulations.

At the conclusion of the apprenticeship, graduates are qualified to work as journey-level linemen with electric utilities, cooperatives, and electrical contractors throughout Utah and the broader region. The program's employer-based structure ensures that apprentices are trained in close alignment with actual workplace expectations and utility operations.
