About This Program
The Michigan Statewide Carpenters & Millwrights JATF sponsors this non-union Millwright Apprenticeship program based in Detroit, Michigan. This statewide apprenticeship training fund supports a paid, employer-affiliated program designed to develop skilled millwrights capable of working across Michigan's diverse and extensive manufacturing and industrial sectors.
The program runs for four years and includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn to install and align industrial machinery, perform rigging operations, maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems, apply welding skills, and service mechanical drive components. Technical instruction covers trade mathematics, mechanical blueprints, industrial safety standards, and systems maintenance theory.
Completing this program leads to journeyman millwright credentials recognized across Michigan's industrial workforce. With training paid throughout all four years, apprentices can support themselves financially while developing the specialized skills that are highly sought after in automotive manufacturing, food processing, and other heavy industries. This apprenticeship is a strong pathway to a stable, long-term industrial career.
