About This Program

Minneapolis Electrical JATC, operating out of Saint Michael, MN, sponsors a union electrician apprenticeship serving the greater Minneapolis metropolitan area. As a Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee program affiliated with IBEW and NECA, it provides apprentices with rigorous, employer-supported training under collectively bargained conditions. All apprentices are paid from their first day on the job.

This five-year program requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices receive training in electrical theory, load calculations, wiring systems, conduit bending and installation, motor controls, and NEC code requirements, working alongside experienced journey electricians on real commercial and industrial projects.

Upon completion, graduates hold journey-level electrician status recognized by IBEW signatory contractors across Minnesota and nationally. The Twin Cities metro market offers robust opportunities in commercial construction, industrial facilities, and infrastructure, making this a strong career foundation.
