About This Program

Northwest Lineman College in Denton, TX sponsors this non-union Lineman Apprenticeship, offering Texans a paid, structured route into the electrical power line trade. Located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area, the program places apprentices in one of the country's fastest-growing energy markets, with access to a wide range of utility employers.

The apprenticeship is four years in duration and structured around 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices develop skills in installing and maintaining overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, operating aerial equipment and line vehicles, working safely with high-voltage systems, and complying with OSHA and utility safety requirements. Classroom instruction covers electrical fundamentals, line construction techniques, hardware and materials, and regulatory standards.

Graduates earn journey-level lineman status and are well-positioned to work with Texas's extensive network of electric cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, and electrical contractors. Texas's booming population and energy infrastructure make this one of the strongest job markets in the country for skilled linemen.
