About This Program
Northwest Lineman College in Meridian, ID sponsors this employer-based, non-union Lineman Apprenticeship, offering individuals a structured and paid route into the electrical power line profession. Apprentices work in the field from the start, gaining direct exposure to utility operations while earning a wage throughout their training.
The program runs four years and is built around 7,000 hours of on-the-job training supplemented by 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices develop competency in constructing and maintaining overhead and underground distribution and transmission systems, operating specialized line equipment, rigging and working safely near high-voltage lines, and meeting all applicable safety codes. Classroom instruction covers electrical theory, hardware and materials, line construction principles, and workplace regulations.
Graduates of the program earn journey-level lineman credentials, qualifying them for positions with utilities, public power departments, and electrical contractors. With strong and growing demand for qualified linemen across the country, this apprenticeship provides a direct path to a skilled, well-compensated trade career.
