About This Program

Northwest Lineman College – MMUA in Meridian, ID sponsors this non-union Lineman Apprenticeship, providing a comprehensive, paid training program for aspiring electrical power line workers. The program is designed to prepare apprentices for the demands of real-world utility work from the very beginning of their training.

Structured as a four-year, time-based program, the apprenticeship requires 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn to install, maintain, and repair both overhead and underground electric lines, operate line trucks and aerial platforms, work safely near energized equipment, and comply with utility and OSHA safety regulations. Technical instruction reinforces line construction theory, electrical systems, and industry best practices.

Upon completion, apprentices achieve journey-level lineman status, opening doors to employment with electric utilities, public power agencies, and electrical construction firms. The combination of hands-on experience and formal instruction provides graduates with the skills and credentials employers in the utility sector actively seek.
