About This Program

Northwest Lineman Training Center in York, SC sponsors this non-union Lineman Apprenticeship, providing a paid, structured training program for individuals pursuing a career in electrical power line work in the Southeast. Apprentices enter the workforce immediately, earning wages while developing the technical and safety skills required of professional linemen.

The program is four years in duration and includes 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn to install, inspect, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electric distribution lines, operate utility vehicles and aerial equipment, apply proper rigging techniques, and follow OSHA and utility industry safety standards. Technical coursework covers electrical theory, line hardware, construction methods, and relevant regulations.

At the end of the program, apprentices earn journey-level lineman status, qualifying them for positions with electric utilities, rural cooperatives, and electrical contractors across South Carolina and the broader Southeast. The region's continued population growth and infrastructure expansion support strong, ongoing demand for skilled linemen.
