Operating Engineers Local 3 JATC sponsors this union apprenticeship for heavy equipment operators in Elko, NV. Local 3 is one of the largest operating engineer locals in the country, and its JATC program is built to deliver thorough, consistent training across a range of construction and mining environments common to northern Nevada. Apprentices earn wages from the first day of training and receive pay increases as they advance.
This four-year program includes 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn to operate and maintain equipment such as excavators, motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, and cranes. Classroom and lab instruction covers hydraulic systems, preventive maintenance, rigging safety, blueprint reading, and OSHA compliance.
Graduates earn journeyman status as Operating Engineers and are well-positioned for careers in Nevada's mining, construction, and infrastructure industries.
