Elevator Constructors JAC Local Union 5, associated with the Philadelphia region, sponsors this JATC-affiliated union Elevator Constructor apprenticeship based in Chester, MD. Apprentices work under the mentorship of journeyman elevator constructors across the greater Philadelphia and upper Chesapeake region from their first day of training.
The apprenticeship runs for four years and encompasses 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices develop hands-on skills in elevator and escalator installation, maintenance, and repair, working with mechanical components, electrical control systems, and hydraulic equipment. Technical coursework covers electrical theory, hydraulics, mechanical systems, blueprint reading, and ASME A17.1 safety code compliance.
