The three-year apprenticeship combines 6,000 hours of on-the-job training with 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices work under the supervision of journeyman masons, learning concrete placement, floating, troweling, and decorative and restorative finishing techniques. Classroom instruction includes trade safety, concrete properties, measurement, and tool handling. Apprentices are paid from the beginning of training, with wages increasing at defined intervals.
