About This Program
River Cities Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (CEU Authority), based in Sabula, IA, sponsors this employer-sponsored, registered, non-union HVAC Technician apprenticeship. Apprentices are paid throughout training while gaining hands-on experience with heating, cooling, and refrigeration systems in Iowa's Tri-State river region.
The four-year, time-based program requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices develop competency in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems. Technical coursework covers refrigeration principles, electrical systems, controls, ductwork, load calculations, system diagnostics, and EPA refrigerant regulations, with continuing education units integrated into the program framework.
