Lineman at Salt Lake Community College-Lineman Program

Salt Lake Community College – Lineman Program in Sandy, UT sponsors this non-union Lineman Apprenticeship, offering apprentices the benefits of community college instruction alongside substantial real-world field training. The program is paid, meaning apprentices earn wages throughout the full four years of training while building a marketable skilled trade credential.

The apprenticeship includes 7,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction over four years. Apprentices learn to install and maintain overhead and underground electric distribution lines, operate utility vehicles and aerial equipment, handle energized conductors safely, and follow OSHA and utility industry safety protocols. SLCC's technical instruction program covers electrical theory, line construction methods, line hardware, and relevant codes and safety standards.
