About This Program
SEI Elevators LLC sponsors this registered Elevator Constructor apprenticeship located in Chesterton, IN. This is a non-union, employer-sponsored program that trains motivated individuals to install, service, and maintain elevators and related vertical transportation equipment. Apprentices are paid from the beginning of the program, allowing them to earn income while developing a specialized and in-demand skill set.
The apprenticeship runs for four years and combines 8,000 hours of on-the-job training with 576 hours of related technical instruction. Under the mentorship of experienced mechanics, apprentices learn to install elevator components, perform wiring and control system work, conduct safety inspections, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues. Classroom coursework covers hydraulics, electrical theory, blueprint reading, and relevant safety codes.
Upon completion, graduates are ready to work as journey-level elevator constructors.
