About This Program

The Southern California Drywall Finisher JAC sponsors this union drywall installer apprenticeship program based in Commerce, CA. Administered through a Joint Apprenticeship Committee, this JATC-affiliated program prepares apprentices for professional careers in drywall installation within one of the nation's largest and most active construction markets.

The three-year program includes 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn to install gypsum board on commercial and residential projects, work with metal and wood framing systems, apply joint tape and compound, and prepare surfaces to finish-ready condition. Technical coursework addresses safety regulations, blueprint reading, building codes, and finishing processes. Apprentices are paid from the first day, with wages increasing as they advance.

Graduates earn journeyman drywall installer status under union-recognized credentials, qualifying them for employment on union job sites throughout Southern California. JATC backing means apprentices also benefit from negotiated wages and access to union health and retirement benefits.
