About This Program
Southern Elevator sponsors a registered Elevator Constructor apprenticeship in Henrico, VA. This employer-sponsored, non-union program provides a structured entry point into the elevator industry, pairing hands-on field training with technical classroom instruction over a four-year period. Apprentices are paid throughout the full duration of the program.
The apprenticeship includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices work with experienced elevator mechanics to develop proficiency in installing, servicing, repairing, and modernizing a variety of vertical transportation systems. Technical coursework covers electrical theory, hydraulic and mechanical systems, applicable safety codes, and building regulations.
