About This Program

The Wayland Carpenters and Millwright Training Center sponsors this non-union Millwright Apprenticeship in Wayland, Michigan. This paid, structured apprenticeship is designed to prepare the next generation of industrial trades workers to install, maintain, and service complex machinery in manufacturing and industrial facilities throughout the region.

Spanning four years, the program includes 8,000 hours of on-the-job training and 576 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices develop hands-on skills in machinery installation, precision leveling and alignment, rigging, welding, and maintaining hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. Classroom instruction covers safety regulations, mechanical theory, blueprint reading, and industrial mathematics to support the practical work being performed in the field.

Upon completing the program, graduates earn journeyman millwright credentials and are ready to take on skilled roles in Michigan's extensive manufacturing sector. The apprenticeship is fully paid throughout all four years, providing a financially accessible and career-focused path into a well-compensated industrial trade without the need for traditional student loans.
