Washington State requires medical assistants to be credentialed through the Washington State Department of Health under RCW 18.360. Three credential levels exist: MA-Certified (requires completion of an accredited program and passing a national certification exam such as CMA or RMA), MA-Registered (requires completion of a training program and state exam via PSI), and MA-Phlebotomist (limited to phlebotomy tasks).
