Welder License Requirements in Washington

Washington State does not require a statewide occupational license for general welders. The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) does not issue a welder-specific individual license. Welding contractors must register with L&I. Boiler and pressure vessel welding is regulated by L&I's Pressure Systems Safety program (https://www.lni.wa.gov/). Employer certifications per AWS or ASME are commonly required.
