About United States Army Sergeants Major Academy
The United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (USASMA) is a military professional education institution located at Fort Bliss, Texas. It is the Army's senior noncommissioned officer school, responsible for educating and developing senior NCOs at the sergeant major and command sergeant major levels. The academy is a branch of the United States Army and does not award traditional civilian academic degrees.
The primary program at USASMA is the Sergeants Major Course (SMC), a ten-month resident program that prepares senior Army NCOs for leadership responsibilities at the highest noncommissioned officer levels. The curriculum includes military strategy, leadership, communications, and staff operations. A distance learning version of the course is also available.
Fort Bliss is a major Army installation in El Paso County in far west Texas, adjacent to the city of El Paso and the New Mexico state line. USASMA serves as a center of excellence for NCO leadership development across the Army, drawing senior enlisted leaders from all branches of the United States military and allied nations.
