About United States Naval Academy
The United States Naval Academy is a federal service academy located in Annapolis, Maryland. It is a four-year institution that educates and commissions officers for the United States Navy and Marine Corps. As a highly selective institution funded by the federal government, it does not charge tuition; students, known as midshipmen, receive a full scholarship in exchange for a service commitment upon graduation.
The Naval Academy offers bachelor of science degrees across a range of disciplines, including naval architecture, ocean engineering, systems engineering, computer science, political science, economics, and quantitative economics. All graduates are commissioned as ensigns in the Navy or second lieutenants in the Marine Corps. The rigorous academic and military training program is designed to develop officers of character.
Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, sits on the Chesapeake Bay and has a long-standing association with naval history and maritime culture. The Naval Academy's historic campus along the Severn River is a landmark institution in American military and higher education.
