About Wheelock College
Wheelock College was a private nonprofit institution located in Boston, Massachusetts, historically dedicated to programs in education, social work, and child and family studies. Founded in 1888, Wheelock served students at the undergraduate and graduate levels with a mission centered on improving the lives of children and families. In 2018, Wheelock College merged with Boston University, and it no longer operates as an independent institution. Enrollment and outcome data are not reflected in current IPEDS records.
During its independent operation, Wheelock College offered programs in early childhood education, elementary education, social work, child life, and juvenile justice, among others, at both the bachelor's and master's degree levels. These programs have since been integrated into Boston University's Wheelock College of Education and Human Development.
Boston is a major hub for higher education in the United States, home to dozens of colleges and universities. Wheelock's former campus in the Fenway neighborhood placed it within a densely academic environment that supported its mission of preparing professionals to work with children and families across educational and social service settings.
