About This Program
The Northern California Cement Masons JATC in Livermore, California offers a union-affiliated registered Mason Apprenticeship structured through a Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. This JATC program gives apprentices the advantages of union training standards, incremental wage increases, and labor protections while they earn a wage from the first day on the job.
This three-year program requires 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn concrete placement and finishing, screed and form setting, surface grinding and sealing, and the use of power and hand tools common to cement masonry work. Technical coursework covers concrete materials and mix design, surface finishing methods, occupational health and safety, and Northern California construction codes.
Graduates complete the program as journey-level cement masons with full union standing in the Northern California Cement Masons. Union journeymen have consistent access to employment with signatory contractors on major commercial and public works projects throughout the Bay Area and Northern California region.
