About This Program
The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union of New Jersey, Local 5, JATC in Bordentown, NJ sponsors this union Mason apprenticeship through its Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. As a JATC program, apprentices benefit from the negotiated wages, benefits, and training standards that come with union membership in the BAC, one of the country's most established construction unions.
The program runs for three years and includes 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices work under the supervision of union journeymen on commercial and residential job sites, learning brick, block, and stone installation, mortar work, layout, cutting, joint finishing, and scaffold safety. JATC classroom instruction provides in-depth trade theory, safety certifications, blueprint reading, and masonry calculations aligned with union and industry standards.
Upon graduating, apprentices become journey-level union masons with access to the full benefits of BAC Local 5 membership, including negotiated wages, health coverage, and pension contributions. A union journeyman mason credential is widely respected throughout New Jersey's construction industry and provides strong long-term career security.
