Mason at Virginia Masonry Association

The Virginia Masonry Association sponsors this registered non-union Mason apprenticeship based in Richmond, VA. As a statewide industry association, the program draws on a network of masonry contractors to provide apprentices with broad on-the-job training opportunities across Virginia. Apprentices are paid throughout the three-year program as they develop real trade skills.

The program includes 6,000 hours of on-the-job training and 432 hours of related technical instruction. Apprentices learn brick, block, and stone masonry; mortar application and mixing; blueprint reading; and worksite safety practices. Technical instruction covers construction mathematics, masonry materials science, structural principles, and applicable safety and building code standards.
